A Cappella Night
Small Group Participation
Participation:
- Small singing groups from the community are invited to participate in A Cappella Night. You don't have to be a member of the Evanston Civic Chorus.
- Singers must be high school age and older.
- Each group may sing one song.
- Each singer may be in more than one group.
- Free
- Deadline - January 10th
- Easy online registration form - ONLY the GROUP LEADER should register.
- Your song is not officially claimed until you register your group. Register early before someone else claims it! (See bottom of this page for the current list.)
- Each group is responsible to decide on a song, obtain music, and rehearse themselves. The school choir room will be available to groups until 9:00 pm after ECC rehearsal each week.
- Music can be purchased locally at Mountain Music or online from sites like JW Pepper, SheetMusicPlus.com, and MusicNotes.com. Some music can be purchased and downloaded immediately. Get on mailing lists to receive coupons and sale updates. The average piece of sheet music is about $2.25, more or less.
- Sometimes a music teacher is willing to lend music, so it doesn't hurt to ask. You will be financially responsible to return all copies in good shape, in a timely manner.
- Choose singers who are confident in holding a part by themselves, even if they will be paired with another singer.
- When you invite a singer to participate, ask if they are willing to pay for a copy of the music. You might not want to get stuck bearing the full financial burden for your group.
- Sometimes it is helpful to find a coach for your group. They can help with performance and musical suggestions, and they might help you rehearse.
- Any style or genre of music is allowed. The show will feature an eclectic assortment of a cappella tunes from many time periods.
- The song should be family friendly - no explicit language or themes
- It is easier to relate to the audience when songs are well-prepared and memorized, but it is permitted to use music.
- A screening video must be sent to Evanston Civic Chorus by January 31st. We want to make sure you'll have a solid performance before we approve you for the show. Alternatively, your group can sing live for Nate or Sara.
- The video does not need to be professional quality with fancy editing. A cell phone video is fine. Upload your video to your Google Drive or Dropbox and share the link with EvanstonCivicChorus (at) gmail.com
- We will not have individual mics. A condenser mic will be available downstage center. Groups should arrange themselves in a semicircle, with each member equidistant from the mic. You can tweak the semicircle for stronger and quieter singers. Singers need to be sure not to go past the imaginary half circle line or they might not get picked up.
- Small groups will get a chance to sing on stage at EMS with the condenser mic after the ECC rehearsal on February 7th, starting at 8:00 p.m. A schedule will be arranged later by email.
- Dress should be modest - please no holey jeans or short skirts or strapless tops. Cover all of your underclothing.
- Dress code generally is casual, but each group can decide how to coordinate. The Evanston Civic Chorus will be wearing jeans and a solid-color top of any style.
- Have fun! This will be a structured event but with a more relaxed concert atmosphere. Enjoy it!
