ECC Performs at Museum's "Between Fences" Reception - November 17, 2007
Last Saturday we were privileged to perform at the Depot for the opening reception of the "Between Fences" exhibit, which is showing at the Uinta County Museum. In keeping with the theme, Kirk picked these songs for our performance:
Don't Fence Me In
Cool Water
Desperado
Wyoming
It was a very successful performance, thanks to a good turnout from the chorus members, a very receptive audience, and a little creativity by the "stage crew" right before the performance. Shortly before it began, I discovered that the very old piano did not have a music rack. I asked for some duct tape, it was provided, and I proceeded to create a piano rack by stuffing my jacket behind the keyboard lid and then taping it up. I'm learning that to be the accompanist for a civic group means performing on a variety of instruments in many different settings.

Fresh Air, Freedom and Fun - July 4, 2007
On July 4th, the Evanston Civic Chorus sang at the city's Fresh Air, Freedom and Fun Festival in Hamblin Park. We were excited for our first invitation to sing at a community event. They had a covered stage set up for a live band, and that is where I played the electric piano. The rest of the choir had to stand out front on a platform under the clear, blue, and very sunny sky. They tell me it was very hot. I'll take their word for it. However, if you look at the pictures, you can see that they were having a very good time, despite the pouring sweat. View More Photos

Debut Concert of the Evanston Civic Chorus
Last Thursday, May 10th, was the debut concert of the Evanston Civic Chorus. I think we all were a little nervous about our first concert together, but we made it through. Kirk did a really great job of helping us relax and feel comfortable on stage. My favorite song was "Shenandoah." View more photos
The concert's theme of "community" was very appropriate, since that is what the Civic Chorus is all about. We're just a bunch of people who live in the same town and love to sing. Most of us just met in January, when we started rehearsals. But the more time we spend together, the more we learn about each other. We are beginning to appreciate our similarities and differences, our strengths and weaknesses, and the life experiences we each have had.
